چکیده

The tidal Love numbers of a black hole vanish, and this is often taken to imply that the hole's tidally induced multipole moments vanish also. An obstacle establishing link between these statements individual bodies are not defined in general relativity, when subjected mutual gravitational interaction. In previous publication [Phys. Rev. Spin induced multipole moments for the gravitational wave flux from binary inspirals to third Post-Newtonian order

Using effective field theory techniques we calculate the source multipole moments needed to obtain the spin contributions to the power radiated in gravitational waves from inspiralling compact binaries to third Post-Newtonian order (3PN). The multipoles depend linearly and quadratically on the spins and include both spin(1)spin(2) and spin(1)spin(1) components. The results in this paper provide...

Spin induced multipole moments for the gravitational wave amplitude from binary inspirals to 2.5 Post-Newtonian order

Direct detection of gravitational waves (GWs) is an international experimental effort which includes the earth-based LIGO/Virgo detectors [1] and the future space-based mission eLISA [2]. Among the most promising sources for these detectors are coalescing compact binary systems, whose dynamics can be studied using Post-Newtonian methods for the inspiral phase and numerical simulations for the m...

Newtonian vs black - hole scattering ∗

We discuss non-relativistic scattering by a Newtonian potential. We show that the gray-body factors associated with scattering by a black hole exhibit the same functional dependence as scattering amplitudes in the Newtonian limit, which should be the weak-field limit of any quantum theory of gravity. This behavior arises independently of the presence of supersymmetry. The connection to twodimen...

Squeezars: Tidally Powered Stars Orbiting a Massive Black Hole

We propose that there exists a class of transient sources, “squeezars”, which are stars caught in highly eccentric orbits around a massive (m . 10M⊙) black hole (MBH), whose atypically high luminosity (up to a significant fraction of their Eddington luminosity) is powered by tidal interactions with the MBH. Their existence follows from the presence of a mass sink, the MBH, in the galactic cente...

Gravitational Recoil of Inspiralling Black-Hole Binaries to Second Post-Newtonian Order

The loss of linear momentum by gravitational radiation and the resulting gravitational recoil of black-hole binary systems may play an important role in the growth of massive black holes in early galaxies. We calculate the gravitational recoil of nonspinning black-hole binaries at the second post-Newtonian order (2PN) beyond the dominant effect, obtaining, for the first time, the 1.5PN correcti...
